A sample of 25-hundred Minnesota eighth graders tested among the best in the world in technical subjects, ranking sixth-highest in science and 7th-highest in math. State education officials say the scores place Minnesota at the top of the pack, along with Korea, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Japan and the state of Massachusetts. But Commissioner Brenda Cassellius says the achievement gap persists for students of color. State education officials say Minnesota eight-graders' test scores in math have increased on average five-percent since 1995, while there's been a three-percent increase in science scores.
