MADISON - The Wisconsin men’s basketball team overcame a slow start to beat UW-Green Bay last night, 65-to-54 in Madison. The Badgers missed nine of their first 10 shots, and Green Bay led 19-12 midway through the first half.

But Wisconsin had a 15-to-4 run to close out the half – and they went on a 12-4 run to open the second half. The Badgers led by as many as 16. Green Bay cut the lead to under 10 with eight minutes left, but could not get any closer. Senior Ryan Evans led Wisconsin with 13 points – and he got the Badger crowd going when he made his first two free throws. He had only made 1-of-12 foul shots in his last two games. Badgers’ forward Mike Bruesewitz missed his second straight game, after getting a concussion at practice a week ago. Keifer Sykes scored 14 for UW-Green Bay, which fell to 3-6. The Phoenix have lost three straight on the road – and their next four games will be at home, starting Saturday against Southern Illinois. The Badgers will have 10 days off to deal with their final exams for the semester. Their next game isn't until Dec. 22 vs. UW-Milwaukee at home.

Poor shooting and turnovers plagued the UW-Milwaukee men last night, when they lost at Fairfield, Conn. 62-46. The Panthers shot 28-percent from the floor, after hitting just 26-percent against DePaul last Sunday. Milwaukee went without a field goal for almost 10 minutes in the first half, and they only made 3-of-18 from three-point range. Coach Rob Jeter said his Panthers tried to force things – and it resulted in more turnovers. Milwaukee committed 18 of them. Fairfield led by two at the break, and they took control with a 13-2 run to open the second half. Milwaukee never got to within single digits for the rest of the game. Derek Needham led Fairfield with 13 points. And he had seven assists – three more than the entire UWM team. The Stags improved to 6-5. Kyle Kelm had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Milwaukee, which fell to 3-7. The Panthers will host Tennessee Tech on Saturday.
