Injuries ravaged the Ellsworth High School wrestling team's line-up before it's Middle Border Conference dual meet with New Richmond Thursday. But the No. 3 ranked Panthers gritted and gutted out at 40-24 win at home.

The Panthers trailed 12-3 after the first five matches but rallied to win the next seven in a row. EHS picked up forfeit wins at 160 and heavyweight and got pins from Josh Hines at 152 in 5:56; Gabe Frandsen at 170 in 1:27; and Brady Zimmer at 220 in 1:28. Ellsworth Hank Holdorf won by major decision at 182 12-1 over Skyler Lugar and Devrin Myers won 7-4 at 195 pounds over Kevin Kern.

Also winning for the Purple was Jens Lantz at 120 pounds by a 10-4 score over NR's Shane Blackman.

The win improves Ellsworth's record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the MBC. New Richmond drops to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Both teams are off until the Bi-State Classic Dec. 29-30 in La Crosse.
