SALEM, Va. - The University of St. Thomas lost its first-ever NCAA Division III championships game 28-10 to Mt. Union College of Ohio, making the Purple Raiders' 11th national championship and first since 2008.

The Raiders scored twice in the second half to put some distance on the Tommies, who only trailed 14-10 midway through the third quarter.

St. Thomas trailed 14-0 after the first quarter but got on the scoreboard when wide receiver Dan Ferrazzo scored on a fake field goal. Paul Graupner added a 38-yard field goal in the third quarter but the Tommies, 14-1 overall, were stymied much of the contest on offense, being held to just 194 yards and just 35 yards in the second half.
