MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin says he’s looking at several free-agent possibilities for his bullpen.
He told Sirius-XM Satellite Radio that his wish-list includes Jon Rauch, Kyle Farnsworth, Mike Gonzalez, and Jason Frasor. The Brewers are re-working their bullpen this winter after releasing Francisco Rodriguez, Kameron Loe, Jose Veras, and Manny Parra.
Milwaukee is looking to improve the weakest-performing bullpen in the Majors from this past season. But the Brewers are keeping a closer eye on their budget – and are trying to avoid overpaying for good arms. Rauch, Farnsworth, and Frasor are all former closers. Rauch went 3-7 with four saves for the Mets this year. Farnsworth was 1-6 with an ERA of 4.00 for Tampa Bay. Frasor was 1-1 for Toronto with a 4.12 ERA. Gonzalez is the only left-hander in the group that Melvin mentioned. He had an ERA of just over 3.00 for Washington this year.
As of now, the Brewers don’t have any lefties in their bullpen.
