Minnesota Sports-- The University of Minnesota men's basketball team was without one of its leading scorers at practice yesterday, but it was for good reason.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's basketball team was without one of its leading scorers at practice yesterday, but it was for good reason.
Senior forward Rodney Williams was excused from practice so he could take a final exam. Head coach Tubby Smith says academics come first and Williams final exam schedule conflicted with yesterday afternoon's practice time. Smith says Williams will be back at practice today and his absence yesterday should not be a negative. Williams is averaging just more than 13-points per game. The 13th-ranked Golden Gophers host Lafayette on Saturday night at Williams Arena at 6 p.m.

Minnesota State-Moorhead guard Anthony Tucker is this week's NSIC men's basketball Player of the Week The senior from Minnetonka High School scored 32 points in a victory over St. Cloud State and 26 points in a win over Minnesota-Duluth over the weekend. This is the second weekly honor of the season for the former University of Iowa and Winona State athlete. The Dragons are ranked No. 21 in this week's NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
