Boyceville girls top Raiders 50-30

The Elmwood-Boyceville prep girls basketball game was played in the Lien Gym at Elmwood High School Friday.

ELMWOOD - The Elmwood-Boyceville prep girls basketball game was played in the Lien Gym at Elmwood High School Friday.

One of the rims fell away from the basket due to sheared bolts. Both the crowd, the two teams, officials, and the fans all moved from Elmwood's newer gymnasium to the old one, named after EHS's first girls basketball coach.

Playing in the old gym didn't give Elmwood much of a spark as they fell behind the Bulldogs early on and lost 50-30 in a Dunn-St. Croix Conference contest.

The Raiders fell behind 12-1 and 14-3 but cut the lead in half down to five points just before halftime. But Boyceville, 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the D-SC, outscored EHS 4-0 before halftime and the outscored them 12-6 in the third quarter to break the game open.

McKayla Brunner was Elmwood's leading scorer with 15 points but no one else was in double figures. Boyceville's April Lake led the Bulldogs with 21 points as she torched the Raiders' defense on transition baskets.

Elmwood dropped to 2-4 overall, 1-4 in the conference. They will be in action next Thursday and Friday at the Glenwood City Holiday Tournament.
