Court of Appeals upholds ruling on domestic partner registry

MADISON - Homosexual rights backers are claiming a major victory. The 4th District Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that the registry doesn’t violate the state constitution.

Leaders at Wisconsin Family Action are promising they will appeal Friday’s ruling on the constitutionality of the state’s domestic partner registry.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is more conservative than liberal, so the victory may not last long. Conservatives had argued the registry, established in 2009, gives same-sex couples a status similar to marriage, violating the 2006 state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
