The first wolf season held in Wisconsin closes this afternoon at 5 p.m. when hunting in Zone 3 is ended.
Five of the six wolf-harvest zones had already been closed. Hunters and trappers in Zone 3 are said to be within one of the established quota already. A spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources says the zone’s quota was 18 and the 17th wolf was harvested last Friday.
The state planned to harvest a total of 116 wolves in the six established zones. The hunt was going to close February 28th – or, when the harvest goals were reached.
