Minnesota tops Texans 23-6, Peterson moves closer to record

- The Minnesota Vikings upset the Houston Texans 26-6 on Sunday behind 86 yards rushing from Adrian Petersen while Christian Ponder threw for 174 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 48 yards.

HOUSTON -- The Minnesota Vikings upset the Houston Texans 26-6 on Sunday behind 86 yards rushing from Adrian Petersen while Christian Ponder threw for 174 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 48 yards.

Blair Walsh hit three field goals and set and NFL record with his 9th field goal of 50-plus yards when he connected on a 56 yarder. The Vikings defense sacked Matt Schaub four times and held him to 18-32 passing for 178 yards and no touchdowns. The defense also limited the Texans to just 34yards rushing while forcing three fumbles and recovering two.

With the win Minnesota improves to 9-6 on the season, and keep their playoff hopes alive, while Houston falls to 12-3. Vikings wrap up the regular season Sunday at home to the Green Bay Packers.

After rushing for just 86 yards in Sunday's 26-6 win over the Houston Texans, Vikings running back Adrian Petersen now needs 208 yards in the season finale Sunday against the Packers to break Eric Dickerson's season rushing record. Petersen has now rushed for 1,898 yards this season in 314 attempts, last time he faced the Packers in week 13, he rushed for 210 and scored a touchdown.
