EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - The Minnesota Vikings could still make the playoffs if they lose to the Packers on Sunday – but they’d also need Chicago, Dallas, and the New York Giants to lose. But win means they're in.
It will be an especially important game for Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson. He needs 208 yards in the regular season finale to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season NFL rushing record. That’s not impossible, since Peterson ran for 210 yards against the Packers on December second in the Vikings’ 23-14 loss at Lambeau Field. Peterson now has 1,898 rushing yards this season, despite tearing an ACL knee ligament around this time last year.
Minnesota also takes a record-setting kicker into its contest against the Pack. Rookie Blair Walsh booted a 56-yarder at Houston yesterday, giving him nine kicks of 50 yards or more this season. That broke the league mark held by Morten Anderson and Jason Hanson.
