Missing woman found dead near Chetek

CHETEK - Authorities in northwest Wisconsin are investigating the death of a missing woman whose body was found in a field near Chetek.

Relatives called police on the night of Christmas Eve, after the 43-year-old woman failed to show up for her family’s holiday observance. On Christmas Day, somebody found a purse in a field that belonged to the missing woman – and officers later found her body in a wooded area near the field.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says the death was suspicious at last word, due to the remote area where the body was found. But he said there were not any notable signs of trauma on the body – and there’s no reason to believe the community is at any risk. The woman’s name was not immediately released.
