As a nurse at the Plum City Care Center, Mary Pieper is accustomed to caring for the residents.

Recently, however, Pieper of Ellsworth got the residents’ perspective when she joined them while recovering from knee replacement surgery.

“It was a little uncomfortable for the nursing assistants at first,” Pieper said Wednesday about her suddenly switching from staffer to the ranks of the center’s resident population, until she reassured them she didn’t have anything different than the others.

The total replacement of her left knee was done in Rochester, Minn., on Dec. 6, she said.
