SVE currently in second place in Northern Badger division, Prescott 9th

The Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestling team finds itself in second in its division after the first day of the Northern Badger Tournament at River Falls High School.

RIVER FALLS - The Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestling team finds itself in second in its division after the first day of the Northern Badger Tournament at River Falls High School.

Prescott is in eighth place in its division with 74 points.

The No. 6 ranked Redbirds had 142 points but they are well behind No. 9 Clear Lake which has 191. In fact the Warriors, who SVE beat in a dual meet a few weeks ago, lead the entire tournament with 191 points.

SVE has three wrestlers in the semifinals: Derek Huebel at 113 pounds, Tyler Berg at 126 and Zach Newton at 145. Huebel won his quarterfinal match by injury default over Rhinelander's Dakota Stone; Berg topped Prescott's Alex Stuhl 3-2 in the quarterfinals and Zach Newton beat Prescott's Troy Urman by an 8-3 decision.

Also still wrestling today for SV/Elmwood is Logan Newton at 120; Jed Schlegel at 138, Jaron Turner at 152 and Trent Miller at 160.

Prescott will have five wrestlers place in the top 12 but non still the championship round. Besides Stuhl and Urman, Sam Hoopingarner is still active at 106, Paul Hansen at 132 and Nick Opdahl at 138.
