LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team is 2-0 in the Big Ten, after winning at Nebraska yesterday 47-41.

The Badgers overcame poor shooting for the second game in a row. They hit just 38-percent from the floor, and made only 3-of-13 free throws. Coach Bo Ryan said he’d be lying if he didn’t feel lucky to be unbeaten in conference play. The Badgers and Cornhuskers played to a 19-19 tie at the half – and then the Badgers started playing a stronger inside game. Wisconsin took the lead for good with 5:57 left when Ryan Evans muscled his way to the hoop, got fouled, and converted a three-point play.

Evans had 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and Jared Berggren scored 12-of-his-13 points in the second half, and he blocked three shots. Badgers’ forward Mike Bruesewitz had a season-high 10 rebounds. Ray Gallegos and Dylan Talley each scored 12 for Nebraska, which started two freshmen – Benny Parker and Shavon Shields – for the first time in three years. The Cornhuskers fell to 0-2 in the Big Ten and 9-6 overall.

Wisconsin is 11-4 with a five-game winning streak. And they’ve held their opponents to under 60 points for nine straight contests. The Badgers will host 11th-ranked Illinois on Saturday.
