Highway 10 rivalry hits the mats as Prescott takes on Ellsworth (Wrestling Honor Roll updated)

Prescott High School's wrestling team's next dual is at No. 3 Ellsworth tonight and Johnson hopes to see an improvement in both effort and the team score from last season.

Prescott High School's wrestling team's next dual is at No. 3 Ellsworth tonight and Johnson hopes to see an improvement in both effort and the team score from last season.

“Our goals are to score more points, to get more wins and to take advantage of the match-ups which we feel favor us,” Johnson said. “We certainly want to wrestle well enough to put on a good, competitive dual meet for the fans.”

The meet begins at 7 p.m. at Ellsworth High School.

That means the pressure will be on the Cardinal’s top scorers in the low to middleweights. This includes wrestler like Sam Hoopingarner at 106, Alex Stuhl at 126, Paul Hansen at 132, Nick Opdahl at 138, Troy Urman, fresh off of winning the Burnsville, Minn. Invitational Saturday, at 145 and Austin Tulip at 152. River Christensen and Tyler Miller and Lee Boles in the upper-middleweights as well.

“They know they’re the tough guys on the team and they’re the one we depend on for points,” Johnson said. “But that’s the kind of pressure you need to able to respond to pressure when it comes to tournament time when you’re trying to get to state.”

The Panthers return to dual meet competition this week 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Middle Border Conference while Prescott is 2-3 in both. The Cardinals won last week over Durand 48-15.

Ellsworth will also be in action Friday evening at Osceola.
