Big game for Raiders against unbeaten Elk Mound

Elmwood took their second Dunn-St. Croix Conference loss of the season 62-61 at Mondovi after Vetterkind’s basket with seven seconds left in the ballgame led the Buffaloes to the upset win.

ELMWOOD - Elmwood took their second Dunn-St. Croix Conference loss of the season 62-61 at Mondovi after Vetterkind’s basket with seven seconds left in the ballgame led the Buffaloes to the upset win.

Now there’s no margin for error for EHS as they host undefeated and No. 4 ranked Elk Mound Tuesday. If Elmwood wishes to win the D-SC title, they need to regroup fast.

“Mondovi played very well so we need to acknowledge it and move on quickly,” Elmwood head coach Chris Segerstrom said. “We just need to keep to our game plan and play better because we know what we’re capable of when we do.”

Elk Mound handed Elmwood its only other loss this season in a slow-paced 54-49 grinder. Controlling the tempo, which means playing the fast-paced full-court style the Raiders wish to play, will crucial to their chances of winning.

“We’ve made changes to our defense since that first game which help us keep up the pace and play the full-court game just as we did against Colfax,” Segerstrom said.
