HASTINGS - Courthouse officials in Dakota County say a 22-year-old man jumped from a second floor balcony so he would not have to take a drug test.
The Hastings man had just plead guilty to theft, and the judge ordered a deputy to take him upstairs for a urine test. The man apparently bolted from the testing area, jumped off the balcony, and landed on his face in a children's play area. The play space was empty and nobody else was hurt.
The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries officials say were not serious.
