MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota still will rule the college hockey universe into next week as both No. 1 ranked Golden Gopher men's and women's team swept their WCHA series.

The Gopher men faced North Dakota for the final time in a WCHA series beat the Sioux Friday 5-1 while rallying to tie UND 4-4 in overtime at Mariucci Arena. The three points finally put the U on top of the WCHA in first place tied with St. Cloud State with 22 points apiece. The Gophers are 17-3-4 overall and 9-3-4 in the conference. Saturday's game inside a jammed packed Mariucci Arena was part of "Let's Play Hockey" festivities across the state of Minnesota.

Meanwhile the U women's team is now 24-0-0 after another WCHA sweep, this one of Minnesota State, 8-1 and 6-0 Friday and Saturday respectively in Mankato. Minnesota now has tied the longest winning streak in the history of women's college hockey at 32 with Wisconsin. Both the Badgers and Gophers will square off next weekend in Madison with UW now in second place in the league.
