Panther grapplers go 0-3 at quad meet

EHS, ranked No. 4 in Wisconsin Division 2, lost to Wausau West, ranked No.1 in Division 1 53-15, Apple Valley, ranked No. 2 in Minnesota Class AAA by a 59-9 score and lost to Hudson, ranked No. 6 in Division 1 by a 45-21 score.

The Panthers' lone winners against West were Gabe Frandson at 170 pounds 11-6 over the Warriors' Cody Grunenwald, Jake Murphy at 195 3-2 over Jake Whalen; John Albarado with a 2-0 win in overtime over Carlton Ludtke and Jens Lantz at 120 by pinfall in 3:22.

Ellsworth won two matches against Apple Valley. Jake Murphy was a 3-1 decision winner at 195 over Zach Robole and Brad Cain pinned Dustin Bethke in 3:25.

The dual against Hudson was much close but Ellsworth still lost to the Raiders 46-21. Hudson held a slight 13-9 lead after four matches before the Raiders notched four pins in a row starting at 220 pounds to jump in front 37-9 and well on their way to winning.

Jake Murphy completed a perfect weekend with an 11-6 win over Hudson's Max Gierke at 195. Other EHS winners over the Raiders were Ken Stowe at 160 with a pin at 3:37; Jens Lantz at 120 with a pinfall in 3:19; Cain won 7-0 over C.J. Steiner at 132 and Tristan Muller was a winner at 138 over Hudson's Nic Johnson.

The losses drop Ellsworth's over all record to 8-4. They after still 6-0 in the Middle Border Conference after a 75-6 win over Durand Thursday. But the Panthers will face another ranked opponent Thursday when they host No. 7 Amery with the match starting at 7 p.m.

Apple Valley won all three of its duals at the Ellsworth quad while West went 2-1, downing Hudson in an exciting dual 34-30. Hudson was ahead 30-20 before West won the last three matches in a row.
