Amery came within 2:00 of snapping Ellsworth's long Middle Border Conference dual meet win-streak Thursday evening at Ellsworth. But the No. 4 ranked Panthers survived the No. 7 ranked Warriors' challenge and won their final regular season home meet 32-28.

EHS has not lost an MBC dual meet since 1996 when it fell to Baldwin-Woodville. The Panthers haven't lost to Amery since 1986 when the Warriors' won its lone Middle Border Conference title under legendary head coach Henry Yetter. This was the closest margin between the two teams since 1996.

Brad Cain secured the dual meet win for Ellsworth with 8-7 win after securing a takedown under :30 seconds remaining in the match. He trailed Amery's Garrett Paulson 6-4 heading into the final period before scoring a reversal and then cutting Paulson lose before scoring the winning takedown.

The Panthers trailed 9-3 before Max Peterson scored a takedown and two nearfall points in the final seconds of his match with Broden Schock to win at 160 pounds. This started a run of wins for the Purple as Gabe Frandsen recorded a 19-3 technical fall at 170, Hank Holdorf won 10-3 over Joe Lundgren at 182, Jake Murphy scored a pinfall at 195 in 1:57 and Brady Zimmer won a 10-7 decision over Eli Newton at 220. Ellsworth led 23-9 after this match.

Amery came back to win the next three matches in a row, two by pinfall to take a 25-23 lead but the Panthers won two out of the next three as Jens Lantz notched a pinfall in :48 seconds and Cain won his exciting match.

Ellsworth improves to 9-4 overall and completes it's 17th perfect MBC record in dual meets in a row. The Panthers will compete in a dual meet tournament in Forest Lake, Minn. this Saturday.
