RIVER FALLS--This Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Big Brothers Big Sisters will hold informational events across their service area for anyone interested in learning more about the organization.
Included is River Falls, River Falls Public Library, 140 Union St.
As a part of January’s National Mentoring Month, Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for volunteers to resolve to make a difference in a child’s life. Everyone is invited to attend a Big Info event, which will feature snacks, stories from current volunteers and information about the organization’s program. These events are no obligation and are offered to anyone who has thought about volunteering or just wants to learn more about the group.
In 2012, 482 children in five counties in Northwestern Wisconsin were served, including Pierce.
“We always have more children waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister than we have volunteers enrolling in the program. Our goal for 2013 is to start off strong by encouraging community members to volunteer to make a difference in the life of a child and help us match many of the children on our waiting list,” said St. Croix Valley Branch Director Michel Tigan. “Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is as simple as spending one hour a week with a child doing something simple you both enjoy such as throwing a ball, watching a movie, going fishing or even taking your dog for a walk.”
