TO THE EDITOR: Sunday morning at 11:30, I was in Ellsworth with my wife Trudy and sister Donna.

Following our delicious coconut cake at Pop’s, we went to cross Main Street in the crosswalk. As we walked 12 feet into the crosswalk, five cars never slowed down and the sixth car swerved into the approaching traffic in order not to have to slow down or stop for the three of us.

Has society bundled cars stopping at crosswalks for pedestrians with opening doors for others or just plain “Do unto others as you want them to do onto you”? I wondered if these drivers were on their way to or from church.
