GRAND FORKS, N.D. - North Dakota and Wisconsin found the net in a 13-second span, then did no more scoring in a 1-1 tie Friday night.

Both scores came in the second quarter. Michael Mersch had the only goal of the game for Wisconsin on a wrap-around. The Badger men’s team outshot North Dakota 30-22. Landon Peterson had 21 saves in goal for Wisconsin. The Badgers’ record is 11-8-6, including 8-5-6 in the Wisconsin Collegiate Hockey Association conference play.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is still looking for its first road win of the season after dropping a 71-40 decision at Valparaiso last night. Valpo shot 56 percent from the field and led by as many as 36 points in the rout. The loss was the fifth in a row for the Panthers. Jordan Aaron led Milwaukee scoring with 17 points. Will Bogan and Ben Boggs led the Crusaders with a dozen points each. Milwaukee’s record drops to 5-18 and the Panthers have lost eight of nine Horizon League conference games so far.

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Matt Gamel says he wanted the job, but not this way. Corey Hart has had knee surgery and is expected to be out of action until the end of April. Gamel says he would have preferred to earn his spot in the lineup. Gamel began last season as the starter at the position, but he tore a knee ligament after just 21 games. Hart moved from right field to become the starter at first base. Gamel has been outstanding in the minors, but has hit just .229 with six home runs while playing a total of 106 games in parts of five seasons.

The Cincinnati Reds report they have signed former Brewer left-hander Manny Parra to a one-year deal. The 30 year old pitcher became a free agent when Milwaukee decided not to offer him a contract for 2013. Fox Sports.com is report the deal is for a million dollars, with Parra having an opportunity to earn another 400 thousand in incentives. Parra was 2-3 last season with an earned run average of 5.06.

Some fans waited in line outside the Green Bay Packers ticket office all night long so they could attend the retirement ceremony for wide receiver Donald Driver next week. They stayed there in frigid weather for a chance at the one thousand tickets which became available yesterday morning. The ceremony will be held in the Lambeau Field atrium next Thursday. The tickets were available on a first-come, first-served basis and were gone in a couple of hours. Each fan was allowed to get up to four tickets to the event.
