Sunday Sports Briefs: Robinson named to NFL Hall of Fame
Wisconsin Sports-- Green Bay Packer linebacker Dave Robinson has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
NEW ORLEANS - Green Bay Packer linebacker Dave Robinson has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Robinson was a standout on the tough defenses in the 1960s which helped Green Bay win NFL Championships and Super Bowl titles. Robinson was a first-round draft choice in 1963 and played in 127 regular-season games during his 10 years in Green Bay. He was starter on teams which won three straight NFL Championship and the first two Super Bowls.

A win today gives the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team a second straight season sweep of Illinois. The two Big Ten Conference foes square off at 2:30 p.m. The Badgers won the first game between the two a little over three weeks ago by a 74-51 score. Wisconsin is trying to regain a little momentum after taking three losses in the last four games. It has split four road conference games this and is 64-64 since Bo Ryan took over as head coach. That’s the best road winning percentage of any Big Ten team during Ryan’s tenure in Madison.

Marquette University's men's basketball team tries to pick up a road victory in the Big East Conference, but it’ll have to come at a tough place to be the visitor. The Golden Eagles play in Louisville against the Cardinal this afternoon. Marquette leads the standings with a 6-1 record after Syracuse was beaten by Pitt yesterday. The Eagles bring in a 15-4 record overall and they’re ranked 25th in the latest poll. Louisville is ranked 12th with a 17-4 record, including 5-3 in the Big East after three straight conference losses. The Cardinals were ranked number one just two weeks ago. These games are usally pretty close. Seventeen of the last 30 showdowns between the two teams have been decided by five points or less – or in overtime.

It was a rough way to lose a winning streak. In a game marked by several fights, 29 penalties and 106 penalty minutes, the Wisconsin Badgers lost at North Dakota 4-1. It was the first time in 11 WCHA games Wisconsin had tasted defeat and it may be awhile before the teams meet again. Both will play in different conferences next season. North Dakota scored the first four goals on the way to its first win in six games. Mark Zengerle scored the Badgers’ only goal in the final period. Wisconsin improved its record to 11-9-6, including 8-6-6 in conference.

Ten straight points late in the game gave the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay the boost it needed to whip Loyola of Chicago 73-65 Saturday afternoon. Alec Brown scored 25 points while hitting 10-of-14 shots from the floor. Jordan Fouse took down 13 rebounds. Loyola held a 55-50 lead with six minutes, 40 seconds to go, but the Phoenix scored the next 10 points. Green Bay’s record improves to 12-11, including 6-4 in Horizon League conference games.

Former University of Wisconsin player J.J. Watt has been named The Associated Press 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. The Houston Texans end missed being a unanimous choice by just one vote. Watt had 20 ½ sacks this past season and he blocked 16 passes. Watt is known for getting off the line quickly. He forced four fumbles and recovered two as the Texans won their second straight AFC South title.
