Spring Valley/Elmwood finishes second at Jamboree

RIVER FALLS - Saturday's results for the No. ranked Spring Valley/Elmwood prep wrestling team at D-SC/BRC Wrestling Jamboree bode well for the No. 10 ranked Redbirds for the upcoming regional meet next weekend.
SVE had one of its best Jamboree finishes since the meet began in 2003 by placing second behind No. 6 Hudson. The Raiders scored 247 points to SV/Elmwood's 191.5. Menomonie placed third.
The Redbirds had just one meet champion. Freshman Jed Schlegel took first at 132 pounds after edging Boyceville's Dominic Olson 7-5 in the finals. However, besides Schlegel, 11 other SVE wrestlers placed in the top eight, including runner-ups Derek Huebel at 113, Logan Newton at 120, Jaron Turner at 152 and Ethan Hofacker at 195. Zach Newton finished third at 145.
Spring Valley/Elmwood will compete in the WIAA Division 3 Cadott Regional next weekend.
