HASTINGS, Minn. - Prescott High School boys' basketball team was as balanced as level in their 75-51 thrashing of Hastings Monday evening.
Twelve players scored at least a basket for the Cardinals in the River Rivalry contest. PHS led 35-23 at halftime and scored 40 in the second half.
Sophomore Charlie Tayson took his turn leading PHS in scoring with 13 points. Two other players with season highs in points were Jordan Koski and Joe Haas, both with nine points. Point guard Mike Brookshaw also finished with nine points and center Nick Jacobsen scored eight points.
Hastings's Sam Skoyen led all scorers with 16 points but the Raiders, 2-16 overall, had half as many players score buckets than the Cardinals.
Prescott improves to 11-3 overall and plays St. Croix Central in Hammond tonight. The Cards play games on six of the next seven school nights but head coach Nick Johnson said the team is now prepared for such a grueling schedule.
"Early on we needed more space in between games to have time in practice to work and improve individually and as a team," Johnson said. "But right now we're playing well and want to keep the momentum going all the way to the end."
This week also includes a big Middle Border Conference showdown with first place Durand at home Thursday and another non-conference contest Friday at home vs. St. Paul CHOF
