Crazed Golden Gopher fan has three-hour stand-off with police, SWAT team

-- An Eagan man upset with a contractor working near his home began a standoff with SWAT and police negotiators last month that lasted for three hours. 32-year-old Dan Drobac didn’t want to know how a University of Minnesota men's basketball game ended because he had DVR’d it, and the utility contractor was listening to a report about the game the next day on the radio and the station gave away the outcome.

EAGAN, Minn. -- An Eagan man upset with a contractor working near his home began a standoff with SWAT and police negotiators last month that lasted for three hours. 32-year-old Dan Drobac didn’t want to know how a University of Minnesota men's basketball game ended because he had DVR’d it, and the utility contractor was listening to a report about the game the next day on the radio and the station gave away the outcome.

Drobac apparently threatened to shoot the worker, and then barricaded himself in his home He was arrested after things calmed down about three-and-a-half-hours later. Officers found a large kitchen knife in the snow near where the contractor was working.

The Gophers lost that game to Michigan, 83-75.
