Elmwood, Prescott have top seeds in regionals

Despite a loss Saturday to Colfax, Elmwood High School's boys' team will have the No. 1 seed for the upcoming WIAA regional tournaments.

Despite a loss Saturday to Colfax, Elmwood High School's boys' team will have the No. 1 seed for the upcoming WIAA regional tournaments.

Elmwood, 15-4 overall, is the top seed in the Division 5 La Crosse Logan Sectional. The Raiders will host all of its regional tournament games, starting with the first round contest vs. No. 16 seeded Granton, 1-18 overall, on Feb. 19. The winner takes on No. 8 seeded Blair-Taylor, 6-13 overall, or No. 9 Alma/Pepin, 9-9 overall.

Also in Division 5 Plum City, 1-16 overall, is a No. 15 seed playing at No. 2 Marshfield Columbus, 15-5 overall. The winner will get No. 7 Port Edwards, 9-10 overall or No. 10 Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 8-12 overall. The sectional semifinal game will be held in Neillsville and the final at La Crosse Logan.

Prescott, 14-5 overall, is the No. 4 seed in its sectional half-bracket. They have a first round bye and will host either No. 5 Neillsville, 17-3 overall, or No. 12 Black River Falls, 2-19 overall, in the semifinals. Also in the same bracket, Ellsworth, 5-14 overall, is a No. 11 seed and plays at No. 6 West Salem, 10-10 overall, in the first round. The winner plays at No. 3 seeded and defending sectional champion Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, 17-4 overall, in the semifinals. The sectional semifinal is at Osseo-Fairchild and the finals will be at River Falls.

In Division 4, Spring Valley, 7-13 overall, is the No. 5 seed and plays at No. 4 Eau Claire Regis, 10-11 overall, in the first round. The winner will play No. 1 seed and undefeated Elk Mound, 20-0 overall. The sectional semifinal is at Osceola and the finals will be at UW-Stout's Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie hosted by Durand.
