OAKDALE, Minn. - A 34-year-old Oakdale man was arrested after what appears to have been a random shooting targeting several cars near a Rainbow Foods store.

Police say a 10-year-old boy was killed when the suspected gunman fired shots into his mother's minivan and he was hit in the head. The mother was also shot but is expected to recover. A woman in another passing car was shot in the hand.

Witnesses told investigators that the man was walking down the middle of the street when he began firing a gun into traffic. Police caught up with the suspect quickly. They also searched his parent's nearby home; it's not clear if he lives there or is a frequent guest.
