PHOENIX - The Milwaukee Brewers will hold their first official workout for pitchers-and-catchers today at Spring Training in Arizona.

The position players will join them this weekend. And for the second year in a row, All-Star outfielder Ryan Braun reports to camp amid questions about performance-enhancing drugs. A year ago, Braun won his appeal of a 50-game suspension after he showed that it took too long for his drug-testing sample to get to a lab – and the test result revealed an excess of synthetic testosterone. This year, Braun’s fans and critics are debating the importance of his name being listed in the records of a former Miami anti-aging clinic that was linked to players using performance-enhancing drugs. This time, Braun immediately fired back, saying his attorneys contacted clinic operator Anthony Bosch only for information concerning his previous year’s appeal. Some national pundits, including NBC’s Bob Costas, don’t buy that. They questioned the use of Bosch as a consultant. And Costas said, “We all know Braun got off on a technicality” a year ago. Others say Major League Baseball essentially admitted the system’s flaws as exposed by Braun, when it tightened its testing procedures last summer.

New Berlin marketing consultant Jonathan Norman says it’s normal in today’s fast-paced social media atmosphere to rush to judgment in seconds, without knowing the facts. And he urges fans to take a deep breath and wait for more to come out.
