Spring Valley board acts to demolish old nursing home

The Spring Valley Village Board addressed the fate of the former local health care center early this month.

SPRING VALLEY--The Spring Valley Village Board addressed the fate of the former local health care center early this month.

Ending several months of speculation about possible ventures for the vacant nursing home, the board voted to demolish the structure. A resolution was passed granting authority to pursue a Community Block Grant Application to cover the costs. Trustee Rich O'Connell voted against.

Another motion to reaffirm the “blighted area” status was also approved by the entire board.

In other business:

The board accepted the resignation of Police Chief Dennis Sorenson, who is retiring. A search for candidates will begin.
