Bad weather has forced Pierce County High Schools to be creative in scheduling basketball games so they can played before the end of the regular season.
Case in point, Plum City High School will host a doubleheader tonight with Elk Mound. The boys' game, which was to be played Monday and postponed due to bad weather (and a game originally rescheduled due to bad weather) will tip-off at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils will try to do what no one else has this season and that's beat the No. 4 ranked Mounders, 20-0 overall. Meanwhile the PC girls team will play Elk Mound at approximately 7:30 p.m. right after the boys' game. The Devils will be playing for their sixth straight Dunn-St. Croix Conference win against a Mounder squad led by Josie Hayes and Kaysi Meindel who together lead the D-SC in scoring, rebounding and assists. If PCHS wins they should nail down a No. 1 seed in their Division 5 regional tournament bracket as the pairings will be made this weekend. PC also plays Saturday afternoon at home, hosting Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran in non-conference match-up. PC has gone 7-2 since a 1-7 start to the season.
A doubleheader of sorts will take place this evening along the Eau Galle as Spring Valley and rival Elmwood square off in both boys and girls basketball. Spring Valley will be at Elmwood in girls basketball and Elmwood will be at Spring Valley in boys basketball. Tip-off for both games is at 7:30 p.m. The girls' contest is on the regular season schedule while the boys' game was rescheduled due to, again, bad weather.
Two more rescheduled games will take place Monday. Plum City will be at Spring Valley and Prescott will be at Somerset. Prescott and Ellsworth play tonight in a full slate of Middle Border Conference games. The improving Panthers will look for their second MBC win of the season at Osceola. Prescott figures into the conference championship as they host New Richmond. The Tigers are just a game behind Baldwin-Wooville in the standings at 9-3 to Blackhawks 10-2. B-W is playing at Durand tonight is also 9-3 in the league. Prescott is 7-5.
Friday is the final date of the regular season for the boys. Ellsworth hosts Baldwin-Woodville, Prescott is at Amery, Elmwood hosts Glenwood City and Spring Valley is at St. Croix Central. Boys' regional basketball tournaments begin Tuesday.
