ST. PAUL - Minnesota state transportation officials say they have selected a contractor to start work on a highway interchange as one of the first steps toward building the new St. Croix River bridge.

Work on the first leg of the multi-year contract starts in the spring. The new four-lane bridge will run between Oak Park Heights and St. Joseph Township, Wisconsin, diverting traffic from the aging Stillwater Lift Bridge.

All work should be completed by the fall of 2016. The total cost could approach $700 million dollars.
