After 15 Major League seasons, Milwaukee Brewers’ third baseman Aramis Ramirez says he’ll do anything to avoid his normal slow starts. April has traditionally been his worst month for hitting. Ramirez is a career .257 hitter for the month – and he only hit .214 a year ago in his first April with the Brewers. He was hoping the climate-controlled conditions in Miller Park would improve his eye-at-the-plate at the beginning of the season – but it didn’t. Ramirez slowly heated up in May and June, and he batted well over .300 in his final three months a year ago. Ramirez finished the year with an even .300 batting average with a .360 on-base percentage, 27 homers, 105 RBI’s, and a .540 slugging percentage. Ramirez says he has talked several times with Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke about getting a good start. Roenicke said Ramirez helped himself by reporting to camp in better shape than a year ago – and now, they’ll work on a spring training schedule that will maximize Ramirez’ preparations. They’ll be deciding on things in the next few days. The Brewers open their Spring Training game schedule on Saturday against Oakland.

The Milwaukee Bucks may end up being a totally different team by the end of the week – or not. The NBA’s trade deadline is mid-afternoon on Thursday, and both of Milwaukee’s starting guards are the subjects of trade rumors. Brandon Jennings says he loves Milwaukee but he’s tired of being passed over for All-Star bids. And Monta Ellis was asked about his desire to stay, after he turned off his shooting spigot in a recent game. He has an $11-million-dollar player option at the end of the season, and he’s been non-committal when asked if he’ll stay in Milwaukee. The Bucks were scheduled to return to practice today after the entire team was off for the NBA’s All-Star Weekend. They’ll play in Brooklyn tomorrow night. Milwaukee has 31 games left, and it holds a four-game lead over Philadelphia for the eighth-and-a-final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks are also a game-and-a-half behind Boston for the No. 7 postseason spot in the East – a spot Milwaukee held before losing five-of-seven before the All-Star break. The Bucks are 26-25.

Former Marquette University guard Dwayne Wade had 21 points and seven assists in last night’s NBA All-Star Game in Houston. Wade, of the Miami Heat, was chosen by the fans to start for the Eastern Conference, which lost to the West 142-138. The West won its third straight All-Star Game, and the fourth in the past five years. Chris Paul of the LA Clippers was the game’s MVP with 20 points and 15 assists. And for the ninth year in a row, no Milwaukee Bucks made it to the All-Star rosters. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said Bucks’ point guard Brandon Jennings was so upset at being snubbed, he rejected an invitation to the All-Star Skills’ Challenge on Saturday night. That left Milwaukee without a representative in any of the All-Star activities for the second year in a row.
