The University of Minnesota men's hockey team remained No. 2 in this week's USCHO.com national poll. Quinnipiac is the top team in the land for the second consecutive week. WCHA-leading St. Cloud State moved up one spot to No. 7, while Minnesota State-Mankato remained ninth this week. Minnesota still sits atop the women's national rankings with an unbeaten 32-0-0. And, Gustavus Adolphus is the No. 2-ranked team in the NCAA Division III women's poll. Plattsburgh is No. 1.

The Minnesota Wild did not practice yesterday, earning a day off after Sunday's come-from-behind 3-2 win over Detroit in St. Paul. Jason Zucker scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game this season, to help propel the Wild to the Sunday victory. Minnesota is now 7-6-2 on the season. Minnesota will be back on the ice this morning for a practice skate. The next game for the Wild is set for Thursday night at Edmonton.

The University of Minnesota men's basketball team remains unranked this week after splitting games against border rivals Iowa and Wisconsin in the past week. Indiana remains the No. 1 team in the nation in both the media and coaches rankings. Ohio State is ranked 18th in both surveys and will host Minnesota tomorrow night.

The weekly award winners in men's and women's basketball have been announced by the NSIC. Southwest Minnesota State junior guard Matt Zager of Shakopee is the men's honoree after helping the Mustangs to a split of games last week. Zager averaged 23-points per game. Minot State junior forward Carly Boag of Tamworth, Austrailia is a women's winner for the third time this year.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be back on the practice floor today getting ready to begin the post-All-Star Break NBA season. Minnesota entertains Philadelphia tomorrow night at the Target Center. Tip-off is set for 7 pm. tomorrow.

Two University of Minnesota gymnasts were honored by the Big Ten Conference for their work this past week. Golden Gopher sophomore Steve Jaciuk of New Berlin, Wisconsin is the Men's Gymnast of the Week after posting three top-three finishes in No. 6 Minnesota's upset win over second-ranked Oklahoma. Jaciuk won the high bard, was second in the parallel bars, and was third on the still rings. Minnesota's Lindsay Mable of Aurora, Colorado is this week's Big Ten women's gymnast Freshman of the Week. She placed second in the all-around competition as the No. 11 Gophers won the Best of Minnesota Invitational last weekend.
