BAYPORT, Minn. - The son of a Stillwater restaurateur died in a snowmobile accident on the St. Croix River last weekend.
Billy Meister, 22, Stillwater, broke through the ice on the St. Croix River about 100 feet off shore near the King Power Plant in Bayport, Feb. 16, according to reports.
Meister was a 2009 Hudson High School graduate. He attended Minneapolis Business College after high school and was currently employed at the family’s well-known restaurant, Meister’s Bar and Grill in Stillwater.
He is survived by parents William Meister, mother Bridget Conway and sister Megan (McGuire) Domeck.
Meister was reportedly familiar with the river and aware of the warm water feed from the power plant that created open water.
Meister was unconscious when he was removed from the water and efforts to revive him failed, the Washington County, Minn., sheriff’s office said.
