MARANA, Ariz. - It’s not exactly golfing weather in Marana Arizona, where the Accenture Match Play Championship began Wednesday. Steve Stricker of Madison was two-up on Henrik Stenson before the opening round was suspended by a mix of snow and rain.

Ice was forming on the greens early this afternoon, and PGA Tour rules’ official Dillard Pruitt said the weather forecast for the rest of the day was not good. The temperature was 39 in the early afternoon, and it kept dropping the rest of the day.

It’s Stricker’s first event in more than a month. He’s the only Wisconsin player in the World Golf Championships’ match play event. Sixty four players are competing. Stricker is seeded fourth in the Sam Snead bracket. And if he beats Stenson, he’ll play either Nick Watney or David Toms in the Round-of-32. That match was all square before play was halted.
