EVANSTON, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team has won five-of-its-last-six, after crushing Northwestern 69-41 last night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The 19th-ranked Badgers opened the game with a 9-0 run. They led 28-12 at the half as they held Northwestern to a season-low point total for any half. The Badger defense held the Wildcats to just 29-percent shooting for the game, and they had a 47-to-22 rebounding edge. Jared Berggren and Ben Brust each scored 12 points for Wisconsin. And Brust had eight rebounds, after missing the previous two days of practice with a sore left knee. Reggie Hearn scored 13 for Northwestern, which has lost four-in-a-row and six of its last seven.
The Wildcats are now 4-10 in the Big Ten Conference and 13-14 overall. Wisconsin moved into sole possession of third place in the conference, one game behind second-place Michigan State. Michigan dropped to fourth. The Badgers are now 10-4 in the league and 19-8 overall. Their next game is next Tuesday night at home against Nebraska.
