BRAINERD, Minn. -- Wausau Paper Corp. plans to close its mill in Brainerd, putting 130 employees out of work.
Company officials say the shutdown will happen early in the second quarter of 2013. The Wisconsin-based company announced last month that it was putting the Brainerd mill up for sale. The mill makes paper used for packaging, linings and masking tape.
Last fall Wausau announced they were planning to stop making print paper in Brainerd, and produce tissue there instead, but company officials say it became clear the Brainerd mill wouldn’t work for that and closing it will "significantly improve" financial results for the company’s paper segment.
