MARANA, Ariz. - Madison golfer Steve Stricker says he will not go to the British Open this year, or compete in the month-long Fed-Ex Cup playoffs in late August and September.

Stricker, who turns 46 tomorrow, has been cutting back on his schedule to spend more time with family and charity work in Wisconsin. This week’s Accenture Match Play Championship is his first golf event since early January, when he placed second in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Stricker told a reporter he would play in all the Majors except the one across the pond. He said he has enjoyed his time at home, and he needed it. Stricker also reaffirmed that he took a cortisone shot to relieve pain from a herniated disc in his neck which had bothered him late last season.

Stricker is competing in the Round-of-32 this afternoon at the Match Play tournament in southern Arizona. He and Nick Watney were all square at the halfway point of their match. The winner advances to the Sweet-16 round.
