PHOENIX - Opening Day is 37 days away – and the Milwaukee Brewers will continue to get ready for it with an exhibition season that begins this afternoon. The Brewers will play the Oakland A’s in their Cactus League opener in Phoenix.
Right-hander Mike Fiers – one of four pitchers competing for the final three spots in the rotation – will start for the Crew. John Axford, Jim Henderson, and Donovan Hand will be the main relievers. Manager Ron Roenicke says everybody wants to play – including All-Star Ryan Braun, who’s among 13 Brewers who will play in next month’s World Baseball Classic.
Also, Brewers’ third baseman Aramis Ramirez will try to avoid the slow starts he’s had for most of his career by increasing his at-bats in the spring exhibitions.
