Boyceville stuns top-seeded Grantsburg in prep hoops tourney
Wisconsin Sports-- There was only one upset last night among the top teams in the boys’ state high school basketball regionals. Grantsburg, a No. 1 seed in Division 4, lost to Boyceville 49-46.
There was only one upset last night among the top teams in the boys’ state high school basketball regionals. Grantsburg, a No. 1 seed in Division 4, lost to Boyceville 49-46.
Lead by 14 points from Jordan Kuhn and 13 from Mike Lagerstrom, the Bulldogs outscored the Pirates 21-9 in the fourth quarter. Boyceville plays at Unity this evening in the regional final. Boyceville is 12-12 overall and Grantsburg ended its season at 18-5.
No. 1 seeded and No. 4 ranked Elk Mound survived a battle from Eau Claire Regis 34-31 and will play No. 2 seed Colfax for the regional title this evening in Elk Mound. There are four teams from the Dunn-St. Croix Conference still going in the tournament.
All 38 other top seeds that played won their regional semi-finals, along with all four defending champions which played – Germantown, Onalaska, Whitefish Bay Dominican, and Sheboygan Lutheran. Last year’s Division 3 champion, Brillion, was snowed out. Thirteen of last night’s 160 scheduled contests were postponed due to snow. Those games will be played today, and their regional finals will be pushed back to Monday night. All other regional finals are set for today. Sectionals begin next Thursday.
