Prescott High School boys basketball team's season came to an end Saturday in a 49-38 loss to No. 4 ranked La Crosse Aquinas in the WIAA Division 3 regional finals but Elmwood's season continues as they beat Alma/Pepin 67-51 in the Division 5 regional semifinals.
Elmwood, 20-4 overall got off to a good start at home Saturday leading 18-5 after the first quarter but the Eagles, 11-12 overall, outscored EHS 19-7 in the second quarters for slight 25-24 halftime lead. But the Raiders outscored A/P 40-27 in the second half.
Kyle Webb led Elmwood again in scoring with 19 points while Logan Wolf had 18 and Seth Jones finished with 16 points. Webb also added 10 rebounds for a double-double and Wolf had nine rebounds. Wolf also had a double-double with 10 assists. Charlie Raethke led the Eagles in scoring with 15 points.
Elmwood hosts Eleva-Strum, 15-9 overall, in the regional final set for Monday at 7 p.m. The Raiders are going for their first regional title since 2003.
Prescott led 22-19 halftime after Mike Brookshaw's three-pointer. The Blugolds, 20-4 overall, shot poorly but did much better in the second half, outscoring PHS 30-16. Still, Prescott continued to lead midway through the half when a three-point play for Aquinas senior forward Carson Scheider and a three-pointer by Bronson Koenig sparked the run which put Aquinas ahead to stay. Koenig finished with 17 points and Mike Conway had 18 points. Nick Jacobsen had 12 points for the Cardinals but no one else for Prescott was in double figures. Brookshaw and Charlie Tayson each had nine points.
Aquinas will play defending sectional champion Gale-Ettrick Trempealeau in the sectional semifinals Thursday. G-E-T upset No. 8 Durand in the regional finals 47-44. Prescott ends its season with a 17-7 record.
