PRESCOTT--Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) empowering basketball coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
The Prescott High School National Honor Society teamed up with the boys' basketball team on Feb. 7 to raise money and awareness for the ACS. The team hosted the Durand Panthers in an exciting back and forth tilt ending in a buzzer beater.
But the excitement on the court was only half the fun. The local chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) held a bake sale, bean bag toss and silent auction to raise money. In preparation for the event, NHS also sold pink T-shirts both teams and many fans sported during the game. To commemorate the lapse of time a victim is lost to cancer in Wisconsin, members of the teams rushed through the bleachers in 89 seconds to collect donations.
NHS raised $2,100 during the annual event. Special appreciation goes to local businesses supporting the cause as T-shirt sponsors and contributors to the silent auction.
