PHOENIX - The Milwaukee Brewers lost a pair of split-squad games yesterday, 7-1 to San Diego and 5-2 to Cincinnati.
The Brewers used the occasion to get a look at more of their minor league talent. Triple-“A” right-hander Hiram Burgos started against the Padres, and gave up two runs on three hits in two-and-two-thirds innings. Brewers’ center-fielder Carlos Gomez singled twice and walked in that game. Against the Reds, reliever Michael Olmsted struck out three and gave up just one hit in one-and-two-thirds’ innings. And Jimmy Nelson tossed a pair of scoreless frames.
The Brewers are now 1-3 in Cactus League play. They’ll play Seattle this afternoon. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo will start for the Crew against Mariners’ right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma.
