First round regional tournament girls basketball games tonight

All of Pierce County's prep girls basketball are all playing first round games this evening in their respective WIAA regional tournaments.

In Division 3, Ellsworth, 3-17 overall, is the No. 12 seed in their half-sectional bracket and will be at No. 5 Durand, 16-6 overall. Durand beat EHS twice this season 46-19 the first time and 45-31 the second go round. Durand finished second in the MBC and is led in scoring by center Lexi Harmon at 13.5 points per game.

In the same bracket, Prescott, 13-9 overall, the No. 8 seed hosts No. 9 Altoona, 9-13 overall. The Railroaders are led in scoring by Courtney Naser at 11 points per game. They finished sixth in the usually competitive Western Cloverbelt Conference.

The winner of the Durand-Ellsworth game the No. 4 seed, Arcadia, 18-5 overall. The Prescott-Altoona winner gets the No. 1 ranked team in the state, Neillsville, 21-0. Regional semifinal games are on Friday.

In Division 4, Spring Valley, 4-18 overall, will play at Boyceville in a 6-11 seed match-up. The Bulldogs, 10-12 overall, beat Spring Valley 49-32 and 53-40 during the regular season, one of the closer margins of defeats the Cardinals have had this season. Sophomore Abbie Bird leads the team in scoring at 12 points per game. The winner will face No. 3 seed Elk Mound, 16-6 overall, in the regional semifinal.

Plum City is 10-11 overall but they have the No. 2 seed in their Division 5 regional and will host Independence, 5-17 overall, in their first round game. Sara Filla leads the Indees in scoring at eight points per game. Also in the same bracket, No. 5 seed Elmwood, 7-14 overall, is at No. 4 seeded Blair-Taylor, 10-12 overall. The Wildcats are led in scoring by Morgan Nehring, averaging nearly 10 points per game. Elmwood will face the winner of the Eleva-Strum-Alma/Pepin 1-8 seed match up while PC will take on either Cochrane-Fountain City or Gilmanton in the 3-6 seed match-up respectively. Eleva Strum, the Dairyland Conference Large Division champion, is 11-11 overall (10-3 in the Dairyland Conference)is the No. 1 seed but it's Cochrane-Fountain City, the No. 3 seed, with the best record in the bracket at 12-10.

All tonight's games tip-off at 7 p.m.
