Do Not Call deadline approaches Thursday

The next quarterly deadline for registrations is Thursday, Feb. 28, and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) reminds Wisconsin residents to add their numbers to the list or to renew their registrations if it has been more than two years since the number was added.

MADISON – The next quarterly deadline for registrations is Thursday, Feb. 28, and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) reminds Wisconsin residents to add their numbers to the list or to renew their registrations if it has been more than two years since the number was added.

The free no-call service, offered through DATCP, covers residential land and cell phone lines. Consumers must re-register every two years to remain on the list.

To register a phone:

Go online to http:nocall.wisconsin.gov

Dial 1-866-966-2255 (no call).

The online and phone registry are available 24 hours a day. Wisconsin residents who add their number to the list by the Feb. 28 deadline receive protection from unwanted marketing or sales phone calls and text messages starting April 1.

DATCP says the Do Not Call list is updated four times per calendar year, on the first day of January, April, July and October. Anyone who registers after the Feb. 28 deadline will still be added to the list, but their protection will not begin until July 1.

Not covered by the no-call law are political calls, solicitations from non-profit organizations and calls responding to consumers’ written or verbal request. Consumers may file a complaint through the DATCP, online at http://datcp.wisconsin.gov, call 1-800-422-7128, or e-mail to datcphotline@wisconsin.gov.
