The Elmwood High School boys' basketball team will play in its first sectional tournament in 10 years as it takes on Cochrane-Fountain City in a WIAA Division 5 match-up at Neillsville High School. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Elmwood is the No. 1 seed in its sectional half-bracket and C-FC is the No. 3 seed. The Pirates, 19-6 and Dairyland Conference Small Division champions, upended No. 2 seeded Marshfield Columbus in the regional final in Marshfield 62-48. C-FC is a team, Raider head coach Chris Segerstrom says, much like Elmwood.

"They're very similar to us in the style they like play," Segerstrom said. "They're very athletic and get after you on defense and have balanced scoring as well."

Cochrane-FC has two players who average in double figures in scoring in senior Parker Lyga at 12.8 points per game and junior Cale Lisowski at 11.2 points per game. Senior Andrew Baker is their top rebounded at 5.2 rebounds per game. The Pirates do not have a lot of height however, as their biggest players are 6-3 and both are underclassmen on the mostly senior-orientated squad.

This is C-FC's first regional title in well over a decade. After struggling in early part of the aughts the past few seasons have seen the Pirates wins several Dairyland Conference division titles.

The other half of the La Crosse Logan sectional tournament bracket has No. 8 ranked Royall, 22-3 overall, taking on No. 10 Cassville, also 22-3 overall, in Reedsburg. The winners of these semifinal games will meet in the finals at 1 p.m. Saturday at Logan High School in La Crosse.
