Wisconsin News-- Fire crews were rushing to the downtown Appleton area last night, but nobody was injured when a gas line was broken.
APPLETON - Fire crews were rushing to the downtown Appleton area last night, but nobody was injured when a gas line was broken.
The Appleton Fire Department reports the gas pipe had broken off on the roof of the building in the 500 block of West College Avenue. The alarm went out, but We Energies shut the gas meter off and repaired the break before the situation could get out of control. Crews were said to be on the scene for about 90 minutes. It wasn’t known what might have caused the problem.

A 60-year old Racine man will be sentenced next June after pleading guilty to two counts of election fraud. Mark Demet admitted falsely signing the names of other people on recall petitions aimed at state Senator Van Wanggaard, a Republican from Racine. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped seven charges against Demet. He has reportedly also been under investigation in neighboring Kenosha County, though formal charges have not been filed there, yet.

A spokesman for the Democratic party is apologizing for comparing Republican Governor Scott Walker to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in three tweets. Graeme Zielinski deleted the tweets and used Twitter to apologize to Walker and the families of Dahmer’s victims. Zielinski made the social media comments after it was announced last Friday that the John Doe investigation of Walker’s aides was closed. Top Democrats like party chairman Mike Tate and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett called the tweets inappropriate.

A 28-year old Adams man has been arrested in the fatal shotgun shooting of his girlfriend early yesterday morning. Coleman Dybul told authorities he fired a shotgun he kept near his bed after she startled him while he was sleeping. Twenty-seven year of Toni Voss was pronounced dead at the scene. Dybul was arrested by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of first-degree reckless homicide. He’s in jail awaiting formal charges to be filed. A young child who was in the house when the shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. was unharmed and is said to be staying with a family member.
